About This Opportunity

Every road, bridge, and trail that connects the public to a national park, national forest, wildlife refuge, or military installation in the western United States starts with careful, behind-the-scenes coordination. Join the team that keeps those construction projects on schedule, on budget, and fully documented, supporting a federal highway program that makes some of the country’s most remote and treasured public lands accessible to everyone.

About

the Work

You’ll support the Construction Branch of the Federal Highway Administration's Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFLHD), which funds and delivers the planning, design, and construction of public roads providing access to and through federal and tribal lands across Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and parts of Wyoming. WFLHD coordinates this work with six federal land management partners, including the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management, to keep these routes safe and reliable for the public.

Genex Systems has a track record of supporting WFLHD's Construction Branch in similar engineering operations roles, giving our technicians a real seat at the table on how these projects get built and closed out.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain branch and project records and electronic files, including photocopying, scanning, distributing, reviewing, organizing, and tracking construction documents, plans, specifications, and related regulatory information.
  • Manage database entry and reporting using tools such as Microsoft Access, Excel, One Note, and Oracle, pulling data together from field notes, monthly reports, lab reports, verbal updates, and other internal and external sources, and running reports as needed.
  • Route, distribute, and enter monthly contractor payment information into the branch's construction data management software, and track branch funding reconciliation reports.
  • Prepare and revise contract and construction report documents, and draft contract correspondence for Government signature.
  • Support Construction Branch training coordination, including maintaining training matrices, calendars, and course agendas; helping prepare presentations, training materials, and certificates; and tracking attendance and course completion for engineering pool training and briefings.
  • Build and maintain complex spreadsheets to track Construction Branch information, including fuel and asphalt pricing indices, and gather and compile information for special branch projects.
  • Assist, under COR direction, with maintaining and updating the WFLHD Construction Manual and related standard operating procedures, following set standards for order, clarity, and terminology.
  • Support project closeout by reviewing project data for accuracy, following established closeout guidelines, and preparing summarized closeout reports.
What You'll Need (Required)
  • A minimum of one year of college coursework progressing toward an Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • At least one year of progressive experience in construction project administration with a general contractor, or with a Civil Engineering, Architectural, or Construction Project Management firm, including at least one year supporting Local, State, or Federal construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction technology, industry terminology, scheduling, practices, methods, techniques, costs, materials, and equipment.
  • Experience managing database applications and document controls.
  • An understanding of construction financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in word processing and in developing and maintaining spreadsheets and databases.
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing, planning, and coordinating business activities.
Nice to Have (Preferred)
  • Hands‑on familiarity with Microsoft Access, Oracle, or similar database platforms used for construction/contract data tracking.
  • Prior experience supporting a federal highway, transportation, or public lands construction program.
  • Experience assisting with training coordination, technical writing, or SOP/manual maintenance in a construction or engineering environment.
