• Assist surgeons during operative procedures, providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other intra‑operative technical functions that help surgeons carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
• Conduct pre‑operative patient assessments and provide postoperative care and monitoring.
• Take patient medical histories and perform physical examinations.
• Coordinate patient care with other healthcare professionals.
• Administer medications and injections as prescribed.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting all patient interactions, treatments, and procedures according to hospital policy, legal requirements, and Howard University Hospital medical staff bylaws.
• Work closely with other medical and surgical specialties to coordinate and optimize patient care.
• Educate patients and families on surgical procedures and postoperative care.
• Participate in surgical rounds, staff meetings and in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.

• Previous experience in general surgery required.
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Licensed to practice as a PA in Washington, DC.
• Bilingual or multilingual a plus.
• BLS Certification required.
• ACLS Certification required.
