Criminal Justice Program Para educator (9886 CTA)

Location: Cascadia Technical Academy (CTA), Vancouver, Washington (Open in Google Maps)

Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026

Reports To: Instructor/Director, Cascadia Technical Academy (CTA)

Department: Cascadia Technical Academy (CTA)

Hours/Work Times: 6 Hours Per Day (7:30 a.m.

- 2:00 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)

Days Per Year: 190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Paraeducators Class II or Professional Technician Class IV (if qualified)

Position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 06/11/2026.

Eligibility
  • At least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Pass 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service Para Pro Assessment.
    • Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
    • Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
    • Completed a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Upon hire, new para educators will be required to complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the program instructor in supervising and working with students.
  • Provide group and individualized instruction.
  • Supervise students during classroom labs and scenario‑based training activities, ensuring safety protocols.
  • Support instructional planning and evaluation to maximize student potential.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies.
  • Prepare, set up, and maintain equipment, materials, and resources for demonstrations, simulations, and practical exercises.
  • Maintain inventory of program equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate community agency visits, guest speakers, field trips, and internships.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay current in instruction and criminal justice.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, public safety, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice procedures, crime scene investigation techniques, and evidence handling.
  • Skills to work effectively with high school students in a structured educational environment.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, and the public.
  • Proficiency in office and technology skills (email, Outlook calendar, Word, attachment management).
  • Ability to locate and use community resources.
  • Capacity to build a network of local criminal justice resource persons.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, cooperativeness, and confidentiality.
  • Organizational skills and follow‑through ability.
  • Team relationship building.
