Special Education Teacher – Learning Support
Part‑time position, 0.5 FTE.

Responsible for delivering individualized instruction to students with special education needs for the 2026‑27 school year. This role involves lesson planning, classroom management, and collaboration with students, families, and professional teams.
Qualifications- Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for the assignment
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution;
Master’s degree preferred - Successful teaching experience with special education students (preferred)
- Ability to coordinate a team of staff assistants and/or community resources
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Enthusiasm toward teaching and student learning
- Experience with precise behavioral management systems in positive learning environments
- Ability to assess student needs, design and implement effective lessons, and write behavioral objectives
- Experience with daily continuous measurement and maintaining progress records
- Skill in administering and interpreting diagnostic tools for students
- Familiarity with state standards and testing
- Ability to work cooperatively with culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse students and parents
- Advanced use of technology for communication, planning, and instruction
- Willingness to participate in professional development aligned with school and district initiatives
- Implements and prepares lesson plans
- Integrates technology into planning, learning, and record‑keeping, including IEPs using IEP Online
- Delivers instruction using the prescribed curriculum and accommodates individual differences
- Models appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire to earn respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff
- Builds favorable relationships with students; listens to, cares for, and works collaboratively with them
- Engages positively with youth and adults of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and learning styles
- Applies appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear behavior parameters, and fosters student self‑discipline
- Uses effective teaching strategies tailored to individualized learning needs and developmental stages
- Effectively teaches students of varying abilities
- Completes evaluations and IEPs within required state time frames
- Maintains classroom discipline using proven management skills
- Keeps accurate student records
- Communicates student progress to parents as directed
- Supervises para educators when required
- Works effectively as a member of the grade/content area team, staff, and community to improve student learning
- Performs faculty duties, including student supervision, as a professional team member
- Engages students in technology‑based individual and collaborative learning activities
- Operates flexibly and cooperatively within the school environment
- Treats all co‑workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect
- Serves as a positive role model, practicing expected student behaviors
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance and follows hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement
- Provides student supervision as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Salary range: $64,498 – $121,573 (includes base & TRI enrichment; commensurate with FTE, degree, credits, and experience)
- Additional compensation for certificated positions may include TRI professional learning, extended‑year days, appendix E supplemental days, and professional development reimbursement
- Health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits for employees anticipated to work at least 630 hours
- Eligibility for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS), based on FTE
- Time off:
Paid time, sick leave (8 hours/month for part‑time), personal leave (3 days per school year), religious, military, and bereavement leave
