Job Description
Position:
Dance Teacher for the 2026-27 school year only. Full‑time position. Starting date:
Aug 10, 2026
.
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for assignment
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning;
Master’s preferred - Extensive dance training to include individual performance, choreography, and rehearsal direction; preferably post‑secondary experience
- Understanding of movement mechanics, dance pedagogy, concepts and skills
- Understanding of choreographic structures, dance composition, concepts and skills
- Experience teaching students from beginner to advanced skill levels
- Strong organizational skills necessary to coordinate student travel and events
- Successful teaching experience including standards‑based instruction, formative and summative assessment, student management, and organization
- Familiarity with a wide variety of teaching techniques used to maximize learning
- Proven ability to provide an instructional program meeting individual student needs
- Willingness and desire to collaborate with assigned PLC
- Willingness to communicate with parents
- Willingness to work closely with instructional committees to research, plan, and implement innovative ways to improve student learning
- Ability to work cooperatively with culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse students and parents
- Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool
- Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiative
- Teach using a wide variety of dance styles with an emphasis on concert dance
- Teach across grade levels using sequential, standards‑based instruction
- Collaborate in a performing arts environment
- Design learning experiences and assessments allowing students to demonstrate applied skills
- Demonstrate positive leadership including motivation, patience, high morale, esprit de corps, active listening, respect, and flexibility
- Show commitment to excellence in productions and exhibitions and provide opportunities for student performances
- Show a progressive, innovative vision committed to excellence
- Engage as an enthusiastic part of a learning‑centered environment that values every student’s learning
- Provide positive learning experiences promoting student success
- Maintain effective classroom management within a positive learning environment
- Use the PLC process to improve instruction, learning, and assessment
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the school community
- Actively engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities
- Work flexibly and cooperatively
- Treat coworkers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times
- Serve as a positive role model for students and practice expected behaviors
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out duties and responsibilities to achieve program requirements
- Supervise students
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Salary range: $64,498 - $121,573 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here.
- Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range (e.g., TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days, and professional development reimbursement). - Benefits: Employees working at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. Eligibility criteria can be found here.
- Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Details can be found here.
- Time Off: Includes paid time off, sick, personal, religious, military, and bereavement leave.
- Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part‑time employee accrual will be proportionate to FTE).
- Personal Leave: 3 days per school year.
