Special Education Para educator
Location: Orchards Elementary School
Reports to: Special Education Instructor/Building Principal
Department: Special Services
Hours / Work Times:
- 6.33 Hours Per Day (8:30 a.m. – 3:20 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch)
- 4.33 Hours on Early‑Release Days (8:30 a.m. – 1:20 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid time)
- 6.17 Hours on Designated Full Wednesdays (8:30 a.m. – 3:10 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch)
- 190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)
Starting Date: Aug 24 2026
Employment Requirements:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Meet at least one of the following:
- Pass the Para Pro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher.
- Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Complete a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
- Qualified candidates will be screened; otherwise, the name will be removed from consideration.
Upon hire, new para educators will complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District.
Responsibilities- Provide special education services and supports for elementary and/or secondary students eligible for special education under the direction of the Special Education teacher or IEP manager.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Deliver one‑to‑one and group instruction to meet individualized education program (IEP) goals.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment aligned with curriculum outcomes.
- Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect performance data to track IEP progress.
- Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
- Implement behavioral management strategies as outlined by the teacher.
- Assist in organizing and preparing instructional materials.
- Attend to students’ bathroom needs, including lifting and changing students as required.
- Feed students and handle body fluids with care.
- Assist in lifting and positioning students.
- Provide services directed by related service providers (OT, PT, SLP).
- Help students use assistive technology, augmentative communication, or physical assist devices.
- Attend training sessions to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of student needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Vision, hearing, and speaking: 66‑100 %
- Standing, walking, stooping, reaching, squatting: 33‑66 %
- Seated work: 33‑66 %
- Writing: up to 33 %
- Lifting up to 50 lbs individually; more with assistance.
- Risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials.
- Multiple concurrent tasks and constant interruptions: 66‑100 %
- Verbal and written communication, confidentiality: 66‑100 %.
