Special Education Para educator – Transition Program
LocationArchway Academy, Vancouver, Washington
Employment SummaryUnder the supervision of the Transition Program Instructor and the Special Services Program Coordinator, the Special Education Para educator assists in supervising and working with secondary students, providing one‑to‑one and group instruction and supporting student participation in community and work placements. The role requires adaptability to variable schedules and locations.
Essential Functions- Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Assist in delivering individualized instruction to meet each student’s IEP goals.
- Create and maintain a positive learning environment aligned with curriculum outcomes.
- Support students with community and work‑placement skills and provide orientation to public transportation when needed.
- Maintain student data files, attendance records, wage reports, work evaluations, and logs of employer contacts.
- Implement behavior management strategies as outlined by the instructor.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials.
- Handle body fluids and lift or position students as required.
- Attend training sessions to stay current on Special Education practices.
- Travel between locations to complete assigned tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent, age 18 or older.
- Basic typing and keyboarding skills.
- Previous experience working with students in academic or professional settings.
- Demonstrated communication skills with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Ability to supervise students both on campus and off campus.
- Willingness to learn computer skills and operate office equipment.
- Capacity to work under constant interruptions and maintain confidentiality.
- Travel flexibility for on‑site duties.
- Pass a score of 455 or higher on the ETS Para Pro Assessment, or
- Hold an Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution, or
- Earned 72 quarter credits (48 semester credits) at 100 level or higher, or
- Completed a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
