Reports To: Special Education Instructor/Building Principal
Employment Type: Part‑time
Salary: $25.95 – $32.95 per hour (minimum hourly rate; experience credit may apply)
Hours: 6 hours per day (9:35 a.m. – 4:05 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch); 3.83 hours on early‑release days (9:35 a.m. – 1:55 p.m.); 190 days per year (180 student days + 10 holidays)
Employment Requirements (Para educator)- Be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Meet at least one of the following:
- Pass score of 455 or higher on the ETS Para Pro Assessment.
- Hold an Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Complete a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
- Screening will exclude candidates who do not meet these qualifications.
- Upon hire, new para educators must complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District.
- Provide special‑education services and supports to elementary and/or secondary students under the direction of the special‑education teacher or IEP manager.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Deliver one‑to‑one and group instruction in accordance with each student’s individualized education program (IEP).
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment that meets curriculum outcomes.
- Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect data to monitor IEP goals.
- Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
- Implement behavioral management strategies as outlined by the teacher.
- Organize and prepare instructional materials.
- Attend to students’ bathroom needs, including lifting and changing when required.
- Feed students as necessary.
- Handle body fluids and lift/position students as needed.
- Provide services directed by related‑service providers (OT, PT, SLP).
- Assist students with assistive technology, augmentative communication, or physical assist devices (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, etc.).
- Participate in training sessions to stay current on students’ needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Vision, speaking, hearing, standing, walking, writing, stooping, reaching, and squatting within the range specified (up to 33% for some tasks).
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. individually; more than 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
- Reading documents, constant interruptions, verbal and written communication, confidentiality, and managing multiple concurrent tasks.
- Reading documents: 66–100%; constant interruptions: 66–100%; verbal communication: 66–100%; confidentiality: 66–100%; written communication: up to 33%; multiple concurrent tasks: 66–100%.
Computer, typewriter, copy machines, telephone, and other tools necessary to perform essential functions.
