Special Education Teacher - High School (8799 SPED)

1.0 FTE
This position is continuing and will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected.
Essential Functions- Participate as a member of the Building Assessment Team and assess & evaluate students to determine eligibility and areas of service.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans, behavioral intervention plans, and transition plans.
- Provide specially designed instruction, support, and related services to students, including accommodations and curriculum modifications.
- Use instructional methods and technology appropriate for achieving student objectives.
- Apply assistive technologies and programs.
- Guide learning toward curriculum outcomes, planning, and collaboration with staff to meet student needs in all curriculum areas.
- Supervise, schedule, and train paraprofessionals; create a safe and supportive classroom environment.
- Confer with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents; develop positive behavior and academic progress techniques.
- Participate in state, federal, and district testing requirements and maintain accurate, confidential records.
- Follow school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy; demonstrate a professional attitude.
- Perform assigned out-of-classroom supervision and other duties; engage in staff meetings, planning events, and professional learning communities.
- Support building-wide programs, including assemblies, contests, and student activities; engage in ongoing professional development.
- Oversee students’ health and basic needs, including hygiene and safety protocols.
- Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree and a valid Washington State teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement.
- Successful completion of a Washington State Patrol background check.
- Knowledge of current state and federal laws pertaining to education of students with disabilities.
- Flexibility, strong communication and conceptual skills, positive student relationships, and teamwork orientation.
- Regular, consistent attendance and physical capability to maintain a safe environment.
- Willingness to uphold district policies and administrative procedures.
- Experience or willingness to use research‑based instructional strategies, assistive technology, behavior management, and IEP‑Online system.
- Preferred training/experience in Positive Behavioral Supports, Collaborative Problem Solving, TEACCH, ABA, visual systems/learning, social skills instruction, and Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS).
- Awareness of own cultural identity and sensitivity to others.
- Creates an inclusive environment celebrating diversity in teaching and learning.
- Initiates activities that improve staff cultural competence and expands instructional practices.
- Models equitable outcomes and fosters positive relationships across all demographics.
- Establishes effective collaboration with diverse support services and administration.
