Location: Shahala Middle School, Vancouver, Washington
Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026
Position Type: Part‑time, Permanent
Hours / Work Times: 6 hours per day (9:35 a.m. – 4:05 p.m., 30 minute unpaid lunch) and 3.83 hours on early‑release days (9:35 a.m.–1:55 p.m., 30 minute unpaid). 190 days per year (180 student days + 10 holidays).
Salary and BenefitsHourly rate: $25.95 to $32.95, negotiated. Salary placement follows classification salary range; prior service may lead to experience credit.

Requirements- Be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Meet at least one of the following:
- Passing score ≥455 on ETS Para Pro Assessment.
- Associate degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
- 72 quarter credits (48 semester credits) at 100 level or higher at accredited institution.
- Completed a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
- Previous experience working with students in academic areas or special education coursework.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, staff and parents.
- Experience supervising and working with students.
- Flexibility, initiative and cooperativeness.
- Confidentiality handling of sensitive information.
- Willingness to learn computer skills, assistive technology and office equipment.
- Ability to handle constant interruptions and aggressive behavior.
- Provide special education services and supports under direction of teacher or IEP manager.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
- Deliver one‑to‑one and group instruction as directed by IEP.
- Assist in creating and maintaining learning environment as per curriculum.
- Assess student progress, evaluate learning and collect data for IEP goals.
- Administer and score formal and informal tests.
- Implement behavioral management strategies.
- Prepare instructional materials.
- Assist with student bathroom needs, feeding, handling bodily fluids, lifting and positioning students.
- Provide services as directed by related services providers (OT, PT, SLP).
- Assist with assistive technology and communication devices.
- Attend training sessions to stay current with student needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
