SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA EDUCATOR

LOCATION: Sifton Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Special Education Instructor/Building Principal

Hours:

4.50 Hours Per Day on Regular and Designated Full Wednesdays (7:40 a.m.

- 12:10 p.m.)
4.17 Hours Per Day on Early-Release Days (7:40 a.m.

- 12:10 p.m. includes 20 minutes unpaid time)
190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

Position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date for recommendation for hire is after 06/26/26.

Job Requirements

Must meet Para educator Employment Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Receive a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service Para Pro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS);
    • Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
    • Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100‑level or higher at an accredited college or university;
    • Complete a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Upon hire, new para educators will be required to complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic typing/keyboarding.
  • Previous experience working with students in academic areas and/or professional coursework in Special Education.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students.
  • Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn to operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under constant interruptions.
  • Must have physical strength to manage potentially aggressive behavior of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
Essential Functions
  • Under direction of the Special Education teacher or IEP manager, provide special education services to elementary and/or secondary students eligible for special education.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Provide one‑to‑one and group instruction as directed to meet IEP goals.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment as specified by course goals and curriculum outcomes.
  • Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect performance data to track IEP goals.
  • Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies outlined by the teacher.
  • Assist in organizing and preparing instructional materials.
  • Attend to students' bathroom needs, feeding needs, and body fluid handling as required.
  • Lift, position, and transport students as necessary.
  • Provide services as directed by related service providers (OT, PT, and SLP).
  • Assist students using assistive technology, augmentative communication, or physical devices.
  • Attend training sessions to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of student needs.
