General Description

In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position oversees a school or program serving students of NWRESD. Responsibilities include the supervision of instruction and staff, student support services, facilities and operations, student activities, interagency collaboration, and community engagement. The program is implemented in alignment with ESD policies and procedures, Oregon statutes and administrative rules, and applicable federal laws and regulations.

It is designed to complement and support the instructional programs of the local school districts within the ESD's service area. An NWRESD principal is an antiracist leader responsible for program vision, administration, standards, monitoring, accountability, and reporting within the mission and vision of the NWRESD.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a variety of staff, community members, families, and other department staff in the smooth and effective delivery of services to students and their families.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings at various levels to improve service delivery.
  • Assure program operation consistent with program model and in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and NWRESD procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide support to staff to meet the changing needs of students and programs, including goal setting, development of a wide variety of effective instructional/evaluation strategies, classroom/student management, record keeping, and other identified needs.
  • Serve as liaison between the ESD and the Oregon Department of Education and other state and federal agencies and organizations as assigned.
  • Assist with coordination of MTSS initiatives, including behavior support planning, attendance interventions, and re‑engagement strategies.
  • Support supervision, evaluation, and professional growth of assigned staff in alignment with district evaluation systems and instructional priorities.
  • Assist in facilitating professional learning communities and staff development activities.
  • Collaborate with LEAs, community agencies, and internal departments to support coordinated student services and smooth program transitions.
  • Assist the Principal with data collection, monitoring, and reporting related to instructional effectiveness, student outcomes, and program improvement.
  • Manage a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, etc.) for enforcing school, District, and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
  • Evaluate assigned personnel to ensure that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
  • Facilitate the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of staff and students for enhancing excellence, equality, and cooperation toward the achievement of a quality learning environment for staff and students.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and directives for providing direction and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students to assist students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
  • Monitor communication between personnel, students, and parents to ensure a high degree of professionalism among the school’s stakeholders.
  • Prepare a wide variety of information (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information.
  • Present information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
  • Chair a wide variety of meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, faculty, etc.) for coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes meet school, District, and state…
