Job Description

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 6/26/2026. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, community, administrators and support staff.
  • Provide assistance and support for students and families needing mental health and related referrals.
  • Maintain positive relationships by modeling respect, cooperation, and professionalism with others. Demonstrate sensitivity toward individuals and groups from all backgrounds.
  • Implement comprehensive guidance curriculum as outlined by district standards and principles.
  • Provide small‑group facilitation and targeted intervention services for students to address skills and behaviors necessary for academic success.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development as part of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) focused on effective interventions.
  • Work with children and families who are economically, culturally, linguistically and racially diverse.
  • Build relationships and establish trust by maintaining a visible presence within the school.
  • Collaborate with parents and teachers to help students develop a positive self‑concept, enhance communication, and create a positive school climate.
  • Provide a comprehensive student‑needs‑based counseling program as outlined by the American School Counselors Association Model.
  • Participate in assessment and intervention teams.
  • Address student and staff behavior support, including planning and crisis intervention.
  • Manage student information systems to develop and oversee school and individual schedules.
  • Deliver class presentations on guidance curriculum.
  • Ensure physical safety by restraining or maintaining a student when necessary.
  • Participate in documentation and intervention for behavior plans, manifest ions determinations, threat assessments, and crisis interventions.
  • Assist students in developing coping skills to prevent gang affiliation, substance abuse, and other risk behaviors.
  • Use student conflicts as opportunities to practice anger management and problem‑solving skills.
  • Maintain data to analyze student progress and program effectiveness.
  • Engage students in technology‑based individual and collaborative learning activities.
  • Develop cultural competence and commit to equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Lead equity initiatives toward college and career readiness.
  • Create a school environment that values diversity and integrates cultural relevance into teaching.
  • Highlight equity gaps to guide improvement plans.
  • Initiate staff discussions to increase cultural competence.
  • Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate expected behaviors for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate endorsement in school counseling or social work.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development aligned with district initiatives.
  • Regular, consistent attendance.
  • Preferred experience as a classroom teacher and/or mental health specialist.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse teachers, students, and parents.
  • Proven ability to conduct large‑group presentations and small‑group/individual counseling sessions.
  • Experience developing schedules and maintaining data related to counseling services.
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting at‑risk students.
  • Preferred training in drug and alcohol intervention, anger management, peer mediation, peer helper, and character education programs.
  • Ability to collaborate with community agencies and organizations for support and resources.
  • Training in developing positive relationships and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS).
