Job Description

INTERVENTION PARA EDUCATOR

LOCATION: Orchards Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Instructor/Building Principal

DEPARTMENT: Federal Programs

Hours / Work Times:

  • 6 Hours Per Day (8:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)
  • 190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)
  • Position contingent upon grant funding

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 07/08/26. Position expected to begin August 24, 2026.

Para educator Employment Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the ETS Para Pro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS)
    • Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
    • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
    • Have completed a Para educator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council

Upon hire, new para educators will be required to complete state-required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Para educator Class II

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. Employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit toward salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT

Under the supervision of the building Principal, the Intervention Para educator assists in the delivery of instructional activities, working closely with students individually and in small groups. The role collaborates with administrators, teachers, and counselors in delivering a tutoring program to support students in achieving academic and behavioral success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Communicate effectively with students.
  • Assist in one-to-one and group instruction according to instructional goals.
  • Help establish and maintain a learning environment that promotes academic and social-emotional learning.
  • Apply student-centered instruction principles to support academic and social outcomes.
  • Use foundational academic and social-emotional concepts to provide effective student support.
  • Maintain accurate data on student progress.
  • Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies as outlined by the instructor and intervention plan.
