Para educator,Learning Support
3 hours per day, 9 months per year
This is a one‑on‑one position.
Qualifications- Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED
- One of the following:
Official transcripts verifying an Associate's degree (90 quarter, 60 semester) OR 72 quarter or 48 semester credits from an accredited institution; OR ETS Para Pro Assessment result of 461 or higher - One year of related experience working with children in an educational setting (preferred)
- Successful experience as part of an educational team (preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment, providing support to achieve classroom or program goals
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and conflict‑resolution skills and ability to think quickly
- Official transcripts for internal applicants; ETS Para Pro Assessment or transcripts for external applicants
- Effective communication with diverse individuals
- Computer literacy, including use of a monitor, keyboard, and adaptive technologies
- Implementation of educational programs and student behavior management under teacher direction
- Maintain confidentiality
- Flexibility with assigned tasks and schedules
- Ability to lift, move, and physically restrain a child as required by the job
- Ability to escort students safely around the school building and grounds
- Ability to observe student behavior visually and aurally
- Regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities
- Treat co‑workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times
- Serve as a positive role model for students and practice expected behaviors
- Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
- Support the certificated staff member(s) in developing specific goals for each student
- Support the teacher in planning and evaluating learning goals and student progress
- Oversee student behavior and assist during class activities
- Assist with classroom activities or provide instruction in academic subjects, life skills, social skills, or other assigned areas
- Produce and assemble teaching materials directed by the teacher
- Assist with data entry, record keeping, and filing
- Grade or correct papers and homework using rubrics or keys
- Oversee assigned students on school grounds, playground, cafeteria, or field trips as directed
- Attend training meetings to broaden expertise
- Collect and share progress data
- Use technology to collect IEP data and inform work with students in goal areas
- Lead small groups or individualized instruction in reading, writing, math, and social/behavioral skills
- Support students in general education classrooms, adjusting, changing, or modifying work as needed and communicating with the general education teacher about accommodations and modifications
- Communicate clearly with the special education teacher regarding student behavior, progress, and needs
- Implement suggestions and feedback from staff related to specific students
- Implement behavior support plans for students with behavior needs
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the administrator in alignment with job classification
- If diapering duty is assigned, Special Program Para educator pay will apply
Salary range:
New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. Employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts may receive experience credit towards salary placement.

Employees who work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits.
Retirement:
Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) based on full‑time equivalent.
