Job Description
We invite you to consider joining McClaskey Culinary Institute at Clark College as a part‑time Cuisine Professor. This role involves teaching a variety of courses in culinary arts, including Serv Safe Manager, ACF Apprenticeship, barbecue basics, banquets & buffets, wine appreciation, beer, spirits & distilling, and other short courses. The position is ongoing, with opportunities to work daytime, evening, or weekend hours as needed.
GeneralFaculty Responsibilities
- Instruct classes and labs utilizing techniques and knowledge of culinary basics, safety, sanitation, and cooking processes that facilitate student learning.
- Participate in decision‑making processes by serving on department and college committees.
- Pursue professional development to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
- Work well with people of all ages and with academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
- Understand and commit to the mission of Clark College.
- Teach Serv Safe Manager course.
- Teach ACF Apprenticeship curriculum.
- Teach barbecue basics, banquets & buffets, wine appreciation, beer, spirits & distilling and other short courses.
- Instruct students on proper, safe use of equipment and tools.
- Utilize appropriate teaching methods to respond to varying student learning styles.
- Effectively use computer applications for instruction and communication where appropriate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the college mission, student population, and educational goals.
- Uphold cuisine department curriculum and operational standards.
- Instruct classes utilizing techniques and knowledge that facilitate student learning.
- Culinary degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Valid State of Washington Food Handlers Card or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Experience in mentoring, training, or teaching.
- Serv Safe or ACF certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months.
- Ability to work well as a member of a team.
- Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
Lecture rate is $95.60 per hour; lab rate is $81.66 per hour.
Condition of EmploymentPrior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. A vocational certification plan must be in place prior to the first day of classes.
