PositionInformation
The Para educator IA works collaboratively with students/staff in an intensive learning support classroom, special education classrooms, Pre‑K classrooms, or other learning environments. This position assists with a variety of instructional support and supervision duties of students who have learning, communication, physical, behavioral, or emotional disabilities. Additionally, this position prepares educational materials, monitors academic progress, collects student data, and implements behavior plans.

Continuing PositionEmployees have reasonable assurance of continued employment to the following school year. However, an employee's total work hours, work locations, and the designated beginning and ending times may vary.

Hourly Rate$31.21 to $35.06 (hourly) (2025‑26 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule)

Required QualificationsEducation and Experience:
- Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- In addition, a para educator must meet one of the following:
- Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
- Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program
Licenses / Special Requirements:
- Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications (or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment)
- Certification of de‑escalation and physical restraint training (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment).
- Maintain training and use of proper physical transfer techniques, including use of the Hoyer lift.
* * Successful candidates are required to complete mandatory, in‑person training/orientation prior to their official start date.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
- Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities and/or behavior challenges or social/emotional issues desirable.
- Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.
The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) provides access to health care services. Our benefits are provided to eligible positions through SEBB (School Employees Benefits Board). Eligibility for SEBB state health insurance coverage is determined by working 630 hours during the school year.
Eligibility for a state retirement plan through the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) is determined upon hire and is based on a variety of factors.
