Job Description

INTERVENTION PARA EDUCATOR

LOCATION: Fishers Landing Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Instructor/Building Principal

DEPARTMENT: Federal Programs

Hours / Work Times:

6.5 Hours Per Day (7:35 a.m. – 2:35 p.m. includes 30 minutes unpaid lunch)

190 Days Per Year (180 student days/10 holidays)

Position Contingent Upon Grant Funding

Para educator Employment Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the ETS Para Pro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS), or hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or have completed a Para educator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council).

Note: If you do not meet the required qualifications listed above, your name will be screened out from the list of qualified candidates.

Upon hire, new para educators will be required to complete state required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Para educator Class II

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. Employees with verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit toward salary step placement.

Eligible employees who work at least 630 hours in a school year may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, basic long‑term disability, basic life, AD&D insurance, and other supplemental benefits. Employees may also be eligible for employer‑funded retirement benefits, paid holidays, and paid time off including sick, vacation, personal, religious, and bereavement leave.

Summary Statement

Under the supervision of the building Principal, the Intervention Para educator will assist in delivering instructional activities, working closely with students individually and in small groups. They will collaborate with administrators, teachers, and counselors in delivering a tutoring program to help students achieve academic and behavioral success.

Essential Functions
  • Communicate effectively with students.
  • Assist in providing one‑to‑one and group instruction according to instructional goals.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment to accelerate academic and social‑emotional learning.
  • Utilize the principles and processes of student‑centered instruction in supporting academic and social outcomes.
  • Utilize foundational academic and social‑emotional concepts to provide effective student support.
  • Maintain accurate data on student progress.
  • Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies using techniques outlined by the instructor and intervention plan.
  • Assist in organizing and preparing instructional materials.
  • Assist in state/federal recordkeeping as necessary.
  • Attend training sessions to maintain knowledge of the program.
