Apex Companies, LLC is seeking a motivated and experienced Structural Bridge Engineer to join our growing Structural Engineering Department in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle or Issaquah). This is an exciting opportunity to work on meaningful infrastructure projects that serve the communities where we live and work. Our team delivers planning, engineering, and construction management services for transportation, industrial, and environmental projects throughout the United States, with a strong emphasis on local and regional work across Washington and Oregon.

Position Overview

In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and delivery of transportation structures including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, marine structures, and other miscellaneous structural systems. Depending on experience level, under supervision of more senior engineers you will participate in small to medium‑size structural projects or serve as a technical contributor on larger, multidisciplinary efforts. You will work both independently and collaboratively, with mentorship and support available while maintaining responsibility for structural tasks and coordinating with internal teams.

Responsibilities as a Structural Bridge Engineer:
  • Plan, analyze, and design transportation structures, including preparation of engineering calculations and technical reports.
  • Participate in preparation of plans, specifications, and engineer’s cost estimates (PS&E packages).
  • Perform bridge load rating.
  • Conduct structural modeling and analysis using industry‑standard software.
  • Prepare engineering reports and technical memoranda.
  • Review shop drawings and provide construction‑phase engineering support.
  • Assist with or lead construction cost estimation and quantity takeoffs.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high‑quality solutions.
What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or related, MS in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • 4+ years of progressively responsible structural design experience.
  • Experience in concrete, steel, and/or prestressed concrete bridge design is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Familiarity with Washington State and/or Oregon transportation agency standards is preferred.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as CSiBridge, SAP
    2000, LPILE, RISA3D, or similar.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage structural tasks under supervision.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (experience with Micro Station is a plus) is preferred.
