OverviewThis full‑time contract CAD Technician position will provide quality design, layout, and production of engineering, civil, mechanical, electrical, and fiber optic drawings within the Communications and Control Planning (TPMC) organization at the company. The role will perform necessary research using standard plans, profiles, hardware, civil, and survey drawings to ensure product reliability and accuracy for engineering, technical, and commercial applications. The position may assist other Transmission Planning organizations, such as Transmission Planning (TPP) and Customer Service Engineering (TPC), with CAD tasks as needed.
Responsibilities- Primary: 65% Planning/Technical Support – review electronic schematics and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data.
- Develop methods and procedures to utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Use CAD programs (Micro Station) to create/draft and/or revise project requirements diagrams, 60 Hz diagrams, customer long‑range plans, and communications diagrams in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations.
- Review preliminary sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data to validate conformance to design concepts and determine complexity and time estimates for completion.
- Provide technical support to engineers and interact with other professional staff to collect data for utility system interconnections and other customer projects.
- Offer technical guidance and training in the use of CAD software to enable planning drawings and diagrams by engineers.
- Review drawings drafted by engineers to evaluate conformance to requirements and overall adequacy.
- Second: 25% Planning Standards – review and implement technical requirements for interconnection to the transmission grid; provide guidance and leadership in development and application of planning templates, standards, and guidelines.
- Maintain long‑range plans, 60 Hz diagrams, communications diagrams, standards, and guidelines to ensure consistency.
- Verify that project requirements diagram (PRD) standards reflect the appropriate CAD requirements.
- Plan and deliver standards and PRD development training to planning engineers.
- Third: 10% Systems Support – mark documents and maintain the filing system(s), emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements; share and disperse documents to appropriate personnel; mark and maintain all official records in accordance with Info Sec and IGLM standards and procedures; validate official records for auditing purposes.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred:
Associate’s degree or higher in a technical CAD training program. - 4 years of civil, structural, or electrical CAD drafting experience required.
- Knowledge and certified training or experience in Micro Station or AutoCAD required.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) required.
