Salary: $71,846 - $142,737 per year

• Work with manufacturers, BPA and other contractor resources for design, test, and integration of new and/or experimental equipment that extends the technology of the industry.
• Investigate and resolve problems and conditions in electrical SPC systems and equipment impacting costs, efficiency, safety, and performance.
• Conduct detailed, comprehensive engineering studies to determine cause of equipment failures.
• Conduct test and energization of new SPC systems and equipment in the District; determine compatibility with existing systems and devise an integration plan to protect power system continuity.
• Examine scheme design for conformance with accepted practice in the specialized field.
• Investigate equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective action.
• Perform fault calculations and coordination relay settings within BPA and with adjoining utilities.
• Provide engineering advice and services on system operation, equipment theory, and equipment problems to BPA and other utility personnel in the district as well as external utilities.

• This position may require periodic physical examinations as prescribed by competent medical authority and at BPA expense if exposed to health hazards.

• A degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent coursework covering statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, or other comparable areas.
• Combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, or technical experience with thorough knowledge of engineering sciences and techniques; must demonstrate ability to apply engineering principles.
• Professional registration or licensure: current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensed Professional Engineer (PE) by any state, DC, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
• Written test evidence: successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
• Specified academic courses: successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses including specified core courses.
• Related curriculum: bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service is required for each of the following grade levels:

• GS-7: experience using basic electrical engineering concepts and methods to investigate electrical equipment malfunction using standard procedures.
• GS-9: experience performing analysis on electrical equipment failures, conducting tests, interpreting results, and recommending corrective actions.
• GS-11: experience participating in electrical engineering studies, analysis, and testing related to operation, maintenance, or construction of a transmission or distribution power system.
• GS-12: experience applying electrical engineering principles to transmission or distribution power systems, specifically with System Protection and Control (SPC) systems and equipment, including protective relaying, metering, telemetering, alarm and data logging systems, and control schemes.

Positive education requirement. Must provide copies of college transcripts from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be reviewed by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Failure to provide transcripts may result in a rating of Ineligible.
