We're seeking a senior or principal-level MOCVD Engineer for an onsite position in our Vancouver location. Highly qualified individuals may be considered for a management-level position, either at the time of hire or for future advancement. The MOCVD Engineer is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of nLIGHT's high power semiconductor laser products produced by MOCVD.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting government and internal research and development by developing innovative and leading-edge MOCVD processes.
- Driving continuous improvement of semiconductor laser performance through MOCVD process enhancements.
- Sustaining and troubleshooting production processes for manufacturing high power semiconductor lasers.
- Improving KPI's for control of manufacturing processes and improving process documentation in line with ISO standards.
- Writing technical and scientific reports and presenting results in internal and external forums.
- Effectively leading and mentoring operators, technicians and engineers.
- Contributing to strategic plans for MOCVD technology improvement.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of development or manufacturing experience with GaAs & InP semiconductor lasers on Aixtron MOCVD tools.
- MS, or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry required. PhD preferred.
- Strong background in Solid State Physics, Semiconductor Device Physics, Epitaxial Processes and Materials Science.
- Broad knowledge of and experience with materials characterization techniques including but not limited to SIMS, EDX, PL, ECV, XRD measurements.
- Excellent analytic, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to clearly and effectively summarize and present results.
- Self-motivated and a strong team player.
- Capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Salary level based on experience, education and skills:
- Senior MOCVD Engineer: $120,000 to $145,000 annually
- Principal MOCVD Engineer $135,000 to $160,000 annually
Other compensation and benefits:
- Target cash bonus of 6-10% of earned wages, depending on level
