Description:
Duties include, but are not limited to making arrests, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints and/or self‑defense weapons when people are breaking the law, preparing investigative reports using proper grammar, exercising independent judgement, operating a law enforcement vehicle day and night in emergency situations and in situations caused by traffic, road conditions, weather, etc., communicating effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels, conducting interviews, obtaining statements of victims, witnesses and suspects, pursuing fleeing suspects and performing rescue operations, possessing the ability to load, unload and fire handguns and shotguns under stress that justifies the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards.
Performing searches of people and vehicles, working rotating 12‑hour shifts (day and night), mediating disputes and advising citizens of rights and processes, demonstrating good communication skills in court, detecting and collecting evidence, performing rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters, processing and transporting prisoners and committed mental patients, possessing the ability to read and comprehend legal documents, including the preparation and processing of citations, affidavits and warrants, serving papers and summons to the general public.
Completing required continuing education to maintain certifications. Performing other related duties as assigned. Applicants for this position must have the ability to remain focused under stressful situations such as enduring verbal abuse when confronted with a hostile suspect and be able to multi‑task.
Physical Requirements: Applicants must have the ability to sit and drive a vehicle for extended periods of time, exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling and may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects and materials of moderate weight.
Education, Training and
Experience:
Graduation from high school documented by a diploma or transcript. Applicant must possess a certificate of graduation from Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.). Previous years of experience in law enforcement will be recognized when establishing salary. Starting annual salary for this position is $44,493 and will be $2,000 more annually if applicant holds an Associate’s Degree and $4,000 more annually if applicant holds a Bachelor’s Degree.
