State Government Relations Director – Position Description Northwest River Partners Mission
Lead impactful public engagement and advocacy to support our affordable, reliable, and responsible multi-benefit hydropower system for the Northwest.
As the State Government Relations Director, you will represent Northwest River Partners before state legislative and executive branch officials to share the foundational value of our affordable, reliable, and responsible hydropower system across the Northwest.
This position requires a dedicated, self-starting leader with strong advocacy, interpersonal, communication, public speaking, research, and writing skills.
Extensive travel across the Northwest and a flexible work schedule will be required for the successful candidate. Responsibilities- Devise, implement, and lead state government relations for Northwest River Partners
- Lead legislative and executive branch advocacy activities within Northwest River Partners' geographic footprint, primarily in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington
- Develop and implement legislative outreach and networking activities
- Lead efforts to organize and execute any response and compliance activities assigned
- Develop work plans, schedules, and participate in outreach activities, and perform any other work needed to complete assigned projects successfully
- Work with Northwest River Partners staff leadership to complete various research assignments in a timely fashion
- Provide materials and research products based on factual, scientific information when requested
- When requested, present materials through various forms of public presentations
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (Experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis)
- 5 or more years of job experience in advocacy, public affairs, utilities, non-profit, trade association, or related areas
- A track record and commitment to high-integrity leadership
- Significant travel and flexible scheduling will be required
- Knowledge of hydropower and its multiple benefits is preferred
- Familiarity with NW regional electricity issues, policies, and laws pertaining to the Bonneville Power Administration, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and the Northwest hydropower system preferred
- Strong organizational abilities including planning, program management, execution, and reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High levels of self-motivation, drive, tenacity, and integrity
- Ability to engage diverse groups in productive collaboration
- Creative and innovative
- Salary:
Commensurate with experience, starting at $128,000 annually - NW River Partners offers high-quality, competitive health care and retirement benefits
