Overview

Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) or Community Corrections Officer 1 (CCO1) — Community Corrections Division.

Location:

East Vancouver, WA.

Salary: CCO1 start at Step G ($5,659.00/month); CCO2 salary range: $5,948.00 to $7,994.00 per month. Salary depends on qualifications. This is a full-time, non-permanent position at the East Vancouver Field Office (8008 NE Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98662). The appointment duration is about six months. Depending on qualifications, placement may be at the CCO1 level or directly at the CCO2 level.

• Supervise criminal supervised individuals (S/Is) in the community in accordance with state law, interstate compact rules, agency policy, and within prescribed time frames.
• Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests as needed.
• Complete intake; administer risk, needs, and substance abuse assessments; manage electronic and hardcopy files and reports.
• Engage with S/Is to promote change using communication strategies; employ Motivational Interviewing and core intervention principles.
• Enforce supervision conditions and the law; present written and oral documentation; provide sanction recommendations to courts/hearings; manage evidence with proper chain of custody; maintain safety when armed and during S/I contact.
• Maintain and safeguard records; perform field visits; prepare written reports; assess risk factors and monitor progress.
• Assist supervised individuals who rely on community resources for basic needs and support; utilize community resources to meet client needs.
• Work independently and with internal and external stakeholders to support reentry and public safety goals.

• Community Corrections Officer 1 (CCO1) Minimum Qualifications
  :
  • Ability to carry and use a department-issued firearm.
  • Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
  • Willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds; review graphic materials; maintain objectivity.
  • Qualification through college coursework or experience in at least three of the following areas:
    • Written communication; concise and accurate work.
    • Critical thinking and risk assessment.
    • Analytical reasoning.
    • Conflict resolution and collaboration.
    • Situational awareness and crisis management.
    • Problem solving and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and with team members.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changes in policy and law.
• Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) Minimum Qualifications
  :
  • Ability to carry and properly utilize a department-issued firearm.
  • Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
  • Willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds; review graphic materials; remain objective.
  • Proven ability through education or professional experience in three or more related areas such as field visits, case assessment, referral to resources, courtroom presentations, risk assessments, treatment planning, and managing caseloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with stakeholders; strong written and verbal communication.

• AND one of the following:
  • One year of experience as a CCO within the Washington State DOC.
  • Associate or technical degree and three years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree and related experience.
  • Equivalent combination totaling at least four years.

• Complete felony disclosure and background checks; pre-employment drug testing; and pass psychological screening.
• Complete required trainings, policies, and firearm qualifications; maintain compliance with agency policies and collective bargaining agreements.
