JobScope
Under direct supervision, the Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Key functions include promoting efficient patient flow, performing clinic support tasks (e.g., answering phones, scheduling), maintaining physician schedules, and supporting the US Oncology Compliance Program, including Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities- Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
- Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician before treatment or procedures.
- Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
- Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
- Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including hormones and growth factors.
- Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
- Process instruments and equipment as required.
- Answer patient telephone calls for referrals to physicians or nursing staff.
- Place prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians.
- Schedule patient tests, procedures, and hospital admissions; follow up on test results and schedule subsequent appointments.
- Obtain new patient records and retrieve prior test results, x‑rays, scans, etc.
- Perform other administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception tasks as directed by supervisor or physician.
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Current CPR certification required.
Experience/Training:
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant (preferred).
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Salary Range: $21.25–$34.03 per hour. Final offer amounts are determined by a review of the candidate’s applicable experience and qualifications, as well as internal employee equity considerations.
