Responsibilities
  • Direct Support Professionals assist adults with developmental disabilities in their daily lives. Assist with care of dietary, hygiene, grooming, and dressing needs and redirect behaviors with various activities as needed.
  • Provide support to program participants that meets their needs and provides opportunities for community integration in a nurturing, safe, and healthful living environment.
  • Must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration.
  • Provide each participant with an array of instruction and support services as described in the participant’s Individual Instruction and Support Plan (IISP).
  • Ensure daily needs of participants are met, including personal hygiene, food preparation, house cleaning, shopping, and monitoring of health needs, including supervision of medication.
  • Assist participants with regularly accessing the community to take part in outings of their choosing; this may require transporting participants or arranging transportation.
  • Ensure participants are treated with dignity and consideration; promote and safeguard each participant’s ability to make decisions and exercise rights.
  • Interact with participants, provide informal counseling, and problem-solve with participants.
  • Attend staff meetings as required by the House Manager or Site Supervisor/Administrator.
  • Attend required trainings and participate in the development and implementation of the IISP for each participant.
  • Will become Nurse Assistant Registered (NAR) and must enroll in and complete Nurse Delegation study course and take the test within 30 days of employment.
  • Provide necessary support and supervision of participants; maintain professional working relationships with other service providers, participants’ families/guardians, and agency staff; complete documentation timely (e.g., medication log, shift notes, progress notes, data sheets, incident reports, client financial records).
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the House Manager or Site Supervisor/Administrator.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to transport clients in own vehicle.
