The Health Information Document Imaging Tech I supports their team by accurately preparing, indexing, scanning, and quality-checking medical documentation; retrieving health information data; and properly maintaining scanning equipment. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely, accurate access to health information while delivering excellent service across the organization.
Responsibilities- Accurately prep documents to be scanned in accordance with established procedures.
- Review and audit scanned documents to ensure all pages in the batch were scanned, pages meet quality criteria with rescanning as necessary, pages are indexed to the correct patient/account, document type, and with the correct description.
- Greet providers, health care professionals and customers and provide complete and accurate information.
- Respond to incoming, outgoing, and inter-departmental calls and/or requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Distribute mail, records, files and reports as appropriate.
- Respond to requests for records and locate previous medical records as needed.
- Directs incoming faxes to appropriate department or party as needed.
- Work within HIPAA, Legacy, and departmental policy guidelines.
Education:
- College course work in health information technology preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of health care experience or equivalent education in at least one of the following areas:
- Medical Records/Health Information
- Applicable clerical support experience
Skills:
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy regulations.
- Knowledge of confidentiality laws, policies and procedures related to specially protected health information.
- Basic grammar and spelling skills.
- Net typing of 40 wpm.
- Proficient keyboarding skills with ability to accurately transfer information from the eye to the keyboard without transposing information.
- Basic use of Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated respectful interpersonal and effective communication skills which promote cooperation and teamwork.
- Ability to work credibly and effectively with medical and administrative staff.
- Ability to withstand various job pressures.
- Attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Work efficiently with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment within stated guidelines.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
preferred.
