Clinical Risk Manager
Peace Health is seeking a Clinical Risk Manager for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at Peace Health is $48.52 – $72.78. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job SummaryResponsible for investigating and managing lower-severity and risk events, including but not limited to visitor incidents, workplace violence, follow up testing for hazardous exposures, mandatory reporting of potential equipment failures, security-related issues and reported adverse events or near misses. This role supports the organization's risk management and patient safety goals by conducting timely reviews, escalating complex cases, and collaborating with departments to implement risk mitigation strategies and improve safety culture.
EssentialFunctions
- Facilitates investigations of non-clinical and lower-severity events, such as visitor falls, employee injuries, workplace violence, and security incidents. May collaborate with Senior Clinical Risk Manager or other Subject Matter experts to investigate Complex and/or High-Risk events. Coaches operational leaders in their roles and responsibilities regarding issues that occurred on their assigned units/departments.
- Conducts preliminary reviews of risk events and escalates complex or high-risk cases to the Senior Clinical Risk Manager and to local/. Works with the Senior Clinical Risk Manager to escalate to local and system leaders as appropriate.
- Facilitates or participates in RCAs and other structured event reviews for assigned incidents.
- Analyzes and leverages data and industry best practice guidelines or databases to identify trends, assess risk, and drive decision-making. Uses information from the incident reporting systems to support proactive risk identification and mitigation planning. Works with others to prioritize risk reduction/prevention activities.
- Collaborates with operational leaders to develop recommendations for risk reduction. Facilitates performance improvement and loss prevention activities. Regularly provides key stakeholders with progress reports and data related to risk management activities. Evaluates improvement and loss prevention activities for effectiveness based on data analysis for their assigned departments and specific assigned committees/areas of focus.
- Represents the Risk Management department on committees and task forces for their assigned areas. Monitors the Risk Management or other resources to share emerging strategies for risk reduction.
- Collaborates with legal counsel on claims and litigation support for their assigned cases.
- Assists Patient Relations to address grievances responds to the patient in the time frame designated by policy with a focus on those grievances related to patient harm, allegations of violation of their rights, ADA accommodations or regulatory concerns.
- In partnership with the Quality department, leads the organization’s regulatory response in the event of a formal patient complaint or EMTALA survey.
- Supports the communication & resolution program (disclosure process and early resolution) in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Facilitates teams related to system-wide approaches for risk mitigation. Regularly provides risk management coaching to operational leaders and provides education and training. Ability to lead Apparent Cause Analysis (ACA) for risk related events/topics.
- Serves as a liaison and problem solver to provide guidance for enterprise risk prevention for new clinical services, programs and equipment as assigned
- Participates and partners with cross functional departments and leaders in the development of system-wide risk management standard work, protocols, and policies.

Required:
Risk management, clinical practice, nursing, medical liability insurance, regulatory, quality, patient safety, or compliance experience. and - Preferred:
