Position Overview
The Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) seeks an IT Digital Accessibility Specialist (IT Business Analyst - Senior/Specialist) to facilitate cooperative partnerships that promote improvements in efficient and effective digital accessibility services to the agency, partner agencies, vendors and those who rely on its services.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure digital accessibility for agency content.
- Convert existing Microsoft, Adobe, and PDF documents to accessible versions.
- Develop and apply advanced processes to analyze and remediate complex accessibility issues.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Test all WSSB IT systems, software, hardware, electronic documents, and communications using multiple tools.
- Stay abreast of technology developments, issues, and changes surrounding digital accessibility.
- Meet with directors, managers and other staff to analyze departmental needs.
- Perform all levels of accessibility analysis and remediation, including tasks lacking existing procedures.
- Apply inclusive design principles and lived‑experience‑driven accessibility.
- Work with procurement, legal, and IT to assess remediation strategies.
- Lead vendor negotiations for remediation timelines, deliverables, and verification checkpoints.
- Advise leadership on risk tradeoffs and alternative mitigation strategies.
- Provide guidance across Microsoft, Adobe, Canvas, training platforms and websites.
- Analyze enterprise accessibility needs and document technical requirements.
- Collect and analyze data on adaptive technology issues and recommend software or hardware changes.
- Document alternative methods for existing technologies with accessibility barriers.
- Advise collaborating agencies on best user experiences.
- Train staff on accessibility and develop procedures on current standards.
- Serve as the agency expert for all digital accessibility related tasks and questions.
- Lead training delivery via one‑on‑one, group sessions, agency‑wide training, or content updates.
- Produce analytical and business documentation for executive, technical, and operational audiences.
- Perform additional IT inventory and support duties as required.
- Independent work ability and strong self‑directed initiative.
- Experience working with blind and visually impaired users.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft, Adobe, Wave, Fusion, and WAVE tools.
- Continuous learning of new and updated technology.
- Skills creating accessible documents and forms with standard tools.
- Experience collaborating with vendors, contractors, and agencies on accessibility topics.
- Proficiency with assistive technology software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff, or IT related issues.
- Advanced knowledge of WCAG, ADA Standards, and Washington State accessibility regulations.
- Knowledge of screen readers and other techniques used with blind/low‑vision individuals.
- Ability to operate in environments with frequent interruptions.
- Willingness to learn, grow, and meet others’ needs.
- Four or more completed years of college, emphasis on education and/or IT; coursework may substitute for years of experience.
- Two years’ experience in accessibility compliance testing.
- CPACC or other accessibility certification.
