Job Description

General Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Information Technology, Infrastructure, the Network Engineer II will provide technology support, expertise, and leadership to the ESD, and the districts that we support. The Network Engineer II will also perform the duties as described in the K-20 Network Support contract with OSPI.

Salary: The full salary range will be $-$.00. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

Assignment: Full Time;
Year-Round

Regular attendance required: Employees are required to maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Essential Functions
  • Design, configure, monitor and maintain both wired and wireless local area networks (LANs).
  • Provide level 2 troubleshooting of client and agency network and other system components.
  • Create and maintain documentation of client and agency networks.
  • Manage procurement and vendor coordination, including building cabling projects, hardware and software procurement, and the purchasing and bid process.
  • Coordinate with network support staff to manage ESD and district LAN services, including E-mail, remote access services, and Internet access.
  • Provide technical and operational guidance and input to ESD and state level decision-makers on network and K-20/Internet access issues.
  • Provide technical information to employees, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Follow-up with K-20 requests regarding district IP address allocations, trouble tickets, moves, adds, and changes.
  • Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Other Functions
  • Communicate openly and effectively at all levels within the organization and with various audiences.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining professionalism and composure.
  • Remain current with network technologies through classes, seminars, and self-directed experiences.
  • Perform other duties and technology related tasks assigned to support the success of the agency and consortium.
Minimum/Preferred

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma and two years of relevant experience. Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification, and training may also be considered.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, PPP, NAT, SIP, RTP, DNS, DHCP, Ping, Telnet, Trace Route, SSH, NFS, TFTP, and protocol analyzers such as Wire Shark.
  • Experience with network security wired and wireless security protocols and experience "hardening" network devices.
  • Experience with current copper and fiber cabling and testing standards.
  • Experience in switches and firewalls configuration and management.
  • Experience with IP addressing and subnetting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft products and services, including:
    Windows, Windows Server, Office 365, Hyper-V, and related hardware and technology support services.
  • Successful experience in a regional educational service agency or K-12 education environment.
Working Conditions/Employment Requirements Working Conditions
  • Required to travel to districts served by the ESD and occasional state-wide meetings.
  • Extended or flexible hours to include evenings and weekends as necessary.
Employment Requirements
  • Successful completion of a criminal records and fingerprint check through the Washington State patrol and FBI.
