Deputy Assistant Secretary – Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA)

You will serve as a key member of FTAA’s executive leadership team, helping guide statewide work that keeps DSHS facilities safe, reliable, and ready to serve Washington residents. You will have full decision-making authority for major operational and capital efforts, including oversight of more than 150 leased facilities and the business functions that support them. Your work will influence how DSHS invests in buildings, technology, and long-term infrastructure so programs can operate smoothly and efficiently.

As Deputy Assistant Secretary, you will collaborate with leaders across the agency, the Legislature, and partner organizations to shape funding packages, prepare clear budgetary status reports, and support decisions that keep projects moving. You will spend much of your week in conversations that bring people together, clarify needs, and help teams make informed choices. You will also support four senior leaders who oversee statewide facilities work, including the director responsible for the new Western State Hospital construction and opening.

Within your first six months
, you will help ensure the new hospital opens on time and within budget, and you will advance improvements that make facilities more effective and cost-efficient across the state. You will help teams strengthen operations, refine processes, and set up systems that support long-term success.

This role offers a hybrid telework schedule within the state of Washington, with in-person work twice per week at the DSHS office closest to where you live.

• Guide statewide facilities work - Oversee capital programs, leased facilities, maintenance, surplus property, and major construction projects.
• Support senior leaders - Supervise four directors and help them align work across divisions.
• Lead project planning - Direct the creation and refinement of reports, funding packages, and decision materials.
• Coordinate with legislative partners - Work closely with legislative offices and business units to share information and support informed choices.
• Advance facility improvements - Help implement changes that make facilities more effective and cost-efficient statewide.
• Oversee major openings - Ensure the new Western State Hospital opens on time and within budget.
• Strengthen operations - Support operational planning for care facilities and service buildings.
• Promote equity and inclusion - Apply DSHS values of equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, and belonging in daily work.

• You bring experience leading public-service work at a senior level, including managing large operating and capital budgets with multiple funding sources. You have guided teams in environments where decisions affect statewide services, facilities, and long-term infrastructure.
• You have a bachelor’s degree and extensive related management experience, or a master’s degree with at least three years of leadership experience. Additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
• You understand how legislative processes work and how to support operational staffing for care facilities and service buildings. You are comfortable working across diverse teams, guiding complex projects, and traveling within the state occasionally as needed.
• You also bring experience working in government or comparable public-sector systems where collaboration, accountability, and clear communication are essential.
