: $22 – $34 per hour (actual base pay based on relevant experience, education, market, qualifications, and skills).

General Description Of Position

The Machinist sets up and operates a wide variety of industrial machines such as CNC mills, CNC lathes, vertical machining centers, and surface grinders to machine ceramic parts. Machinists run 1–4 machines simultaneously and are responsible for all aspects of setup, precision measuring, and training other operators.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–6 years CNC experience or on‑the‑job training including completion of a 2‑year Machine Technology certificate.
  • Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic and unit conversions.
  • Read mechanical drawings/blueprints, including GD&T.
  • Good vision and depth perception for inspection microscopes.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to mentor, train, or lead other operators.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Eligible to work in an ITAR environment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Set up and observe CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining; adjust machine controls or indicators as required.
  • Measure, mark, and/or scribe dimensions and reference points on parts; review technique cards and customer‑specific work orders continuously for changes.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines to maintain .0005 tolerances.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut; enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine controls.
  • Document all instances of scrapped parts or machine issues using proper forms and pass‑down reports; communicate effectively with peers on and off shift.
  • Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications and complete independent first‑article inspection reports; read prints and inspect parts per ISO 9001.
  • Operate CMM and/or optical comparator; routinely use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges) for GDT quality checks.
  • Report machine failures, non‑conformance, spills, accidents, EHS concerns, and maintenance requests immediately.
  • Participate in P5S initiatives; keep machinery clean and area free of debris; address spills, gauges, and sensors immediately.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on machines daily and record steps.
  • Adhere to all safety programs including PPE and safe operating practices; model and train others on departmental safety procedures.
  • Cross‑train on multiple machine types, including 3‑ and 5‑axis CNC machines and diamond tooling; calculate complex dimensions to meet tolerances and apply G, M codes and GD&T.
  • Work on prototype parts and new specifications with limited instructions; write, test, edit and troubleshoot programs as assigned.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with production management, engineers, and quality teams to make departmental improvements and propose innovative suggestions.
Qualifications
