Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
We are seeking a reliable and organised Farm Hand to assist with the maintenance and repairs of plant and machinery for a large-scale farm business in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical experience and fabrication skills who can manage workshop activities, oversee equipment maintenance, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of farm infrastructure and machinery.
You will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of machinery and vehicles across the farming enterprise. There may also be the opportunity to operate machinery during the busy seasons.
This position is an immediate start for June, July, August with the potential for the position to extend into harvest (October
- January) and into a more permanent position for the right candidate.
- Manage daily workshop operations, workflows, and priorities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
- Oversee stock levels of parts, tools, consumables, and materials
- Service, repair, and maintain a broad range of farm machinery and vehicles (tractors, harvesters, sprayers, utes, trucks, pumps, augers etc.)
- Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and downtime
- Diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective solutions
- Maintain maintenance logs and equipment service records
- Carry out welding, fabrication, and repairs on a broad range of machinery and infrastructure
- Design and fabricate custom equipment or modifications to improve farm efficiency
- Safely operate workshop equipment
- Assist with in-field machinery repairs
- Operate seasonal machinery (tractors, seeders, spreaders, harvesters, sprayers) during peak periods as required
- Coordinate with the farm management team to align workshop output with operational needs
- Occasionally assist with general farm tasks where required
- Proven mechanical experience of 3-4 years minimum in agricultural, automotive, or heavy machinery
- Demonstrated ability in welding and metal fabrication is required
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings
- Experience using diagnostic tools and performing preventative maintenance
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Clear communication and record keeping skills
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Initiative and problem solving ability
Essential Criteria
- HR or MC Truck Licence
- First Aid certificate
- Understanding of agricultural operations and seasonal workflows
- Candidates with a relevant trade will attract a higher rate of pay
- Valid work visa applicants will be considered
- Workshop-based role with some fieldwork during peak periods
- Full-time hours with the option of increased hours during seeding and harvest
- Must adhere to safety protocols and workplace health standards
