Cleanroom Production Operator
This General Production Worker role operates in a fast-paced silicon wafer manufacturing environment, focused on final inspection and quality control. Working in a cleanroom, you follow complex, detailed procedures, operate automated equipment, and complete precise documentation to ensure polished wafers meet strict customer and quality specifications. You will be cross-trained and eventually certified to rotate among multiple process areas within the department, supporting production targets on time and without defects.
Responsibilities- Perform final inspection and quality control activities on silicon wafers in a cleanroom environment, ensuring all products meet customer and internal specifications.
- Follow complex, detailed written and computerized procedures and complete all required documentation accurately and on time for each production step.
- Operate robotic and automated equipment to load and unload material, handle wafer cassettes, and transport carts full of wafers between process tools.
- Review work orders, verify lot numbers, and load the correct tools, recipes, and materials according to customer requirements at each operation.
- Count wafers in each box and confirm quantities match work orders and box labels at load and unload of every process step.
- Perform daily calibrations for each process tool and verify that all calibrations meet process specifications before releasing tools to production.
- Continuously monitor, analyze, and verify data and process conditions to ensure quality standards and order specifications are met throughout each process.
- Respond to and troubleshoot tool alarms, taking appropriate action to protect product quality and maintain safe operations.
- Verify cassette placement on tools, station, and position to avoid robotic malfunctions and prevent scrapped wafers or exposure to chemical and mechanical hazards.
- Handle wafers and wafer cassettes with fine motor control to prevent contact with cleanroom garments, gloves, or mechanical equipment that could cause contamination or damage.
- Perform repetitive opening and closing of wafer cassettes, sealing finished product, and packaging wafers according to specified requirements.
- Use visual inspection to differentiate mixed material, identify flipped wafers, check wafer color variations, confirm laser mark orientation, and ensure proper alignment and absence of defects.
- Inspect finished boxes to verify no pen marks, particles, scratches, smudges, or expired date/time stamps, and confirm wafers are not cross-indexed.
- Verify packaging specifications using computerized work orders and visual guides, including proper label placement and sealed bags with opaque and clear lids.
- Maintain cleanroom and 5S standards by cleaning equipment and work areas regularly and following documented procedures and processes.
- Use computers, including Excel and other software, to input data, track and confirm each process, and complete computerized forms and documentation.
- Perform basic math calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and decimals using a calculator, Excel, or other tools.
- Communicate effectively in English with supervisors and co-workers, and read, write, and comprehend instructions, procedures, manuals, reports, and correspondence.
- Follow all documented training, quality procedures, and cleanroom standards, and take action to prevent variations, errors, and lapses in quality.
- Report quality issues promptly, support corrective actions, and provide suggestions for process improvement to appropriate leadership.
- Complete all tasks using safe work practices, consistently put safety before deadlines or other goals, and act as a safety role model for co-workers.
- Work safely around hazardous and volatile chemicals, including hand-pouring specified amounts into manual cleanlines and testing with chemical test strips before running the line.
- Push, pull, and guide transport carts weighing from approximately 20 lbs up to 400 lbs through doorways and hallways, and exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally as part of normal duties.
- Stand and walk for long periods during 12-hour shifts, frequently bending, stooping, squatting, lifting, and reaching to move boxes of wafers between inventory locations, carts, and equipment.
- Operate buttons, levers, and controls on robotic and automated equipment with consistent, accurate hand movements.
- Multitask effectively by monitoring wafers moving on multiple pieces of automated machinery simultaneously and managing several process steps in parallel.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality, complying with advance notice and call-in policies for absences in this manufacturing area.
- Work collaboratively in close proximity to other team members or independently in designated areas as required by production needs.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment with strict quality and process requirements.
