The Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) functions in Specialty Care and is expected to carry out patient care based on patients' conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report, and record relevant patient information. This position is located at Vancouver VAMC in Washington.
Qualifications- Citizenship:
Must be a citizen of the United States; non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens can be recruited. - English language proficiency:
Proficiency in spoken and written English required. - Education:
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate state agency or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). - Licensure:
Full, active, current, and unrestricted LPN/LVN license in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. - Grandfathering:
Eligible under VA Qualification Standard if a current VHA employee meets criteria. - Experience grades: GS‑03 (none beyond basic), GS‑04 (six months of qualifying experience or one year with approved training), GS‑05 (one year at GS‑4 level or equivalent), GS‑06 (one year at GS‑5 level or equivalent).
- Clinical competence:
Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive nursing care, educate patients, handle medications, respond to emergencies, and work within an interdisciplinary team.
- Deliver routine and complex patient care procedures, including wound management, ostomy care, catheter insertion, tube feedings, IV starts and discontinuation, enemas, tracheostomy suctioning, and EKGs.
- Use judgment to select appropriate procedures and treatment sequences based on patient conditions and care plans.
- Document and report patient information accurately, noting medication responses and any changes in condition.
- Educate patients and families, determining readiness to learn and tailoring teaching methods.
- Integrate emotional‑cultural‑spiritual‑socio‑economic‑ and age‑related factors into care interventions.
- Participate as a self‑directed member of the Specialty Care interdisciplinary team under RN direction.
- Assist with complex diagnostic tests and support specialized procedures as required.
- Maintain equipment safety and report malfunctions or deficiencies promptly.
- Seek educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and share new skills with staff.
- Work schedule:
Intermittent Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm PST; not a virtual position. - Relocation/recruitment incentives:
