Job Description

Peace Health is seeking a RN Inpatient – ICU Stepdown for a Full Time, 0.90 FTE, Day position.

Salary range: $56.92–$86.09. Hiring rate is dependent upon factors such as education, training, work experience, collective bargaining agreement terms, seniority, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Job Summary

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families, and all members of the care delivery team.

Essential Functions
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  • Document patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  • Direct and delegate care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  • Ensure own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  • Participate in the development of and maintain established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Manage ventriculostomy, EVD, and ICP. Provide nursing care for patients with non-traumatic ICH, non-traumatic SAH, seizures, post tPA, thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling, carotid artery stenting and intracranial stenting. Manage blood pressure abnormalities with parenteral vasoactive agents. Complete complex neurological assessments/scales.
Qualifications Education
  • Accredited School of Nursing required:
    Nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred:
    Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of recent continuous critical care experience, completion of a critical care intern/residency program, or 3 years in an acute care setting with 400 hours in a critical care unit within the previous year. Some postings may be for an internship position and will apply the following criteria: experienced or new grad RN. If new grad, the RN will also be required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program.
  • BSN with critical care nursing experience preferred.
Credentials
  • Registered Nurse required.
  • Basic Life Support upon hire required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) according to Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements policy required. National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 6 months of hire required. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire required for RN's working on Tower 4.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification preferred.
Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age‑specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (required).

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment (required).
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures (required).
  • Basic computer skills (required).
Working Conditions

Lifting and patient handling: no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment. Fine motor skills required for precise procedures. Push/pull up to 45 lbs. CPR at least 20 mins using 100–125 lbs. of force (seldom or occasionally). Ability to move around area with frequent sitting. Bending/stooping/squatting/reaching/kneeling frequently. Lifting non‑patient up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental conditions:

exposure to biohazard, body fluids, airborne particles. Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/visual: vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted). Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
