Peace Health Southwest is accepting applications for our upcoming Nurse Residency Program in Medical/Surgical at Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. This full‑time, .9 FTE night shift role is an exceptional opportunity for new graduate nurses to join a 12‑month transition‑to‑practice program designed to foster technical expertise, compassionate care and professional growth.

- Recent RN graduate (within 12 months) or RN licensed less than 12 months with less than 6 months of Acute Care experience
- Active Washington RN license by date of hire
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by date of hire
- Able to participate in all program activities throughout the 12‑month residency period
- Ability to work a minimum of 36 hours/week, variable shifts and shift lengths, and rotate per union standards
- Start dates are determined by NCLEX, licensing, relocation, and department needs

- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs.
- Document patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
- Direct and delegate care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
- Ensure own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of hospital policies, procedures, and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection prevention programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Accredited School of Nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Experienced RN or New Graduate RN (or equivalent education and/or experience). If new graduate with fewer than 12 months of experience, the RN will participate in the Nurse Residency program.
- Three years preferred: acute care nursing experience.
- Registered Nurse license.
- Basic Life Support upon hire.
- National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) required within 6 months.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age‑specific principles of growth and development to meet each patient’s needs (required).
- Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and a patient/family‑centered work environment (required).
- Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy, and procedures (required).
- Basic computer skills (required).
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment.
- Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Push/Pull up to 45 lbs. force (e.g., medical carts).
- Perform hands‑on CPR at least 20 minutes using 100–125 lbs. of force; frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
- Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
- Bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and kneeling frequently.
- Lifting non‑patient items up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
