Regional School Nurse (2026-27 SY) – Washougal School District Job Description
Reporting directly to the Health Services Manager, the Regional School Nurse implements, manages and delivers school health services to school districts and/or agencies. The nurse’s scope of practice is defined by law, regulation and professional school nursing standards.
SalaryThe full salary range for this position is $42.59 – $51.82 per hour, with offers made at the beginning of the range.
Assignment / LocationPosition will serve Washougal High School, Washougal School District. 35 hours per week, school year schedule.
Essential Functions- Assess critical health needs of students, including review of Emergency Care Plans (ECP) for life‑threatening medical conditions, medically fragile students, and those requiring nursing treatments.
- Collaborate and consult with administrators and staff to identify school safety and environmental health needs.
- Assess physical and emotional health of students within scope of practice; initiate referrals for diagnosis and treatment and communicate health concerns that impact learning.
- Coordinate and implement mandated health screenings, including referral and follow‑up.
- Supervise, train and delegate medication administration and nursing treatments as allowed by law.
- Provide health counseling and crisis intervention; serve as advocate for student health rights and liaison between school, family and health community.
- Perform professional nursing tasks, including emergency services.
- Serve as resource for health education to classroom teachers.
- Consult and collaborate with staff, parents and professionals to assess student health status and make recommendations consistent with individualized education plans.
- Collect health care services data.
- Assist school districts with policies and procedures for school health services based on current laws and accepted practices.
- Maintain regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Valid Washington State registered nurse (RN) license.
- Experience in pediatrics and willingness to delegate care in a school setting.
- Current CPR/1st aid certification.
- Experience in health care of school‑age children.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing; valid Washington ESA certificate as a school nurse; experience in public or private schools.
- Experience working with community service agencies, health professionals, Department of Health, social services.
- Experience providing health education training to individuals or in a classroom.
- Experience in pediatrics and the health care of school‑age children.
- Exposed to diseases carried by students and to high noise levels.
- Travel to school buildings and districts to provide services.
- Ability to physically move and lift equipment up to 35 lb.
- Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Proof of immunization/disease including MMR, Td, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
