Overview

Compass Oncology is looking for an exceptional Triage RN
. Working the front lines of patient interaction, this role guides patients, answers clinical questions, and gathers information for physicians to ensure timely changes to current regimens. A current or pending OCN certification is preferred, but a nurse with high-level triage experience and strong assessment skills will succeed.

Salary: $41.17 - $69.36 Per Hour

Final offer amounts are determined by a review of the candidate s applicable experience and qualifications, as well as internal employee equity considerations.

Job Scope

A telephone triage nurse assesses patient needs over the telephone, collaborates with a physician or qualified staff member to meet those needs, and documents all elements of care in the patient s medical record. The telephone triage nurse will accurately identify patients with high-risk conditions and will direct care to the appropriate resources if they cannot be managed by the nurse or within the clinic.

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and organizational standards and guidelines for specialty care and scope of practice per state licensing board. Must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care and participate in quality initiatives. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Addresses patient calls, portal messages and emails in a timely manner concerning symptom and side effect topics
  • Asks open-ended questions and uses computerized algorithms/pathways to assess symptoms and side effects and documents interventions
  • Assesses urgency of patient symptoms/side effects and addresses them to prevent unnecessary ED or hospital utilization
  • Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record
  • Provides clear instruction and education to patients via the telephone
  • Evaluates whether emergency care is needed or if the patient can be seen in the outpatient clinic
  • Collaborates with physicians via electronic communication, in person, or by telephone to discuss care needs that cannot be addressed using standing orders or protocols
  • Sets up same-day and/or future provider/infusion room appointments
  • Participates in cross-training programs to develop skills across multiple areas of the practice
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
  • Dual licensure in Oregon and Washington must be obtained within 6 months of start date
  • Current CPR certification
  • Current or pending Oncology or applicable specialty certification preferred

Experience/Training:

  • Minimum of 0-3 years of nursing experience
  • Oncology or applicable specialty experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of medications in cancer treatment is preferred
