Role Statement

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lumber Buyer to join our team. This role is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing lumber inventory to ensure consistent supply, competitive pricing, and strong vendor relationships. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of the lumber market, market trends, and product availability, along with the ability to make strategic buying decisions that support company goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase lumber products to maintain appropriate inventory levels across locations
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, and supply conditions to make informed buying decisions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve the best value for the company
  • Collaborate with operations, sales, and inventory teams to forecast needs and plan purchases
  • Track inventory movement and adjust buying strategies based on demand and seasonal trends
  • Ensure product quality and consistency from suppliers
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in lumber purchasing or a related role
  • Strong understanding of the lumber market, grades, species, and pricing dynamics
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage supplier relationships
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision‑making skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Proficiency with purchasing systems and inventory management is a plus
  • A proactive and strategic thinker who understands market fluctuations
  • Someone who can react quickly to supply challenges and opportunities
  • A team player who works well across departments
Physical Requirements
  • Office and field‑based with travel to stores, vendors, and industry events.
  • Periodic store walks, vendor meetings, and cross‑department collaboration.
  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
  • May move and shift product in our stores to help ensure cleanliness, organization, and consistency with Plan‑O‑Grams.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds seldomly.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting, using a computer, and phone to conduct work.
Wages

Starting wages will be based on years of experience and education.
