The role of a Bakery Clerk:
You create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while encouraging other associates to do the same.
As a Bakery team member, you will establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return.
Bakery Clerk assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department and monitors all established quality assurance standards.
Most importantly, as a Bakery team member you should demonstrate Kroger's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Desire to gain an understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.

- Good basic math skills.
- Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
- Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
- Inform customers of bakery specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products in the correct portion size to prevent shrink.
- Recommend bakery items to ensure customers get what they want and need.
- Use all equipment in bakery such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions.
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness and review “sell by” dates and take appropriate action.
- Properly use kitchen equipment, stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe, etc.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand the store's layout and locate products when requested by customers.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions and make suggestions.
- Monitor inventory and stocking conditions, noting any discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are recorded.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions to notify management.
- Display a positive attitude.
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying department or store manager of needed repairs.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft or fraud.
- Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
