HVAC - Refrigeration Service Technician
Location:
Vancouver Public Schools, Vancouver, Washington. The position requires working 8.0 hours per day, 12 months per year. This is a non‑exempt, full‑time role with a Day Shift schedule.
- Full time, 8 hours per day, 12 months per year.
- Non‑exempt (Fair Labor Standard Act).

Day Shift. - Salary: $43.84 to $49.37 per hour.
Job description includes the following essential functions:
- Respect colleagues, supervisors, students, and patrons.
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
- Work flexibly and cooperatively.
- Calibrate electrical and pneumatic thermostats; diagnose faults in pneumatic systems, electrical control systems, and wiring. Familiar with DDC control systems.
- Participate in design of HVAC systems for new facilities and renovation projects.
- Carry out tasks such as loading and carrying equipment and supplies; clean up job site after completion of work.
- Recharge Freon refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems; check and repair leaks and other malfunctions. Operate refrigerant recycling equipment.
- Optimize heating and ventilating systems, including adjusting dampers, fabricating duct work, replacing parts, analyzing, and correcting CO₂ balance, and diagnosing faults.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC/refrigeration equipment.
- Keep up‑to‑date on current HVAC/refrigeration technology by participating in related organizations and/or taking classes.
- Develop new HVAC/refrigeration systems, act as a resource, and install new systems and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair motor controls related to HVAC equipment.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a Washington State Limited Energy Trainee license; 06A or 06B license preferred.
- At least four years of experience as a control technician, refrigeration repair person, or related role (vocational training may substitute up to two years).
- Certification for proper refrigerant usage and recovery.
- Completed a factory‑authorized course in DDC controls related to setup, operation, and maintenance of direct digital HVAC control systems.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Acceptable driving record; signed waiver for the District to obtain a personal driving abstract annually.
Salary range:
New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate; employees with verified prior service in similar positions may receive experience credit.
Employees working at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending, life, and disability insurance benefits.
Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) based on FTE.
Paid holidays and paid time off (including sick, vacation, personal, bereavement leave). Additional negotiated leave options may be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for this position SEIU CBA.
