Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, diagnostics, and other duties in a mobile/field environment. The role requires advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision, continuous learning of advanced mechanical skills, and compliance with company policies and performance metrics.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled PM, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles.
- Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, alternators, and more.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, and drivetrain systems.
- Use test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges) to inspect, test, and diagnose malfunctions.
- Road test vehicles for diagnostics and operational verification.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment in problem‑solving.
- Manage parts inventory and reconcile company‑issued service truck equipment.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle with safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Interact with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
- Operate hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work per company standards; upload pictures, parts, findings on Repair Orders (RO) via iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly.
- Work independently and manage personal daily schedule.
- Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Source parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management for repair estimates, purchase orders, and RO findings.
- Perform work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- High School Diploma/GED with at least 3 years of related experience (alternative: a degree/certification beyond HS or 5 years of experience).
- Supply necessary hand tools required for job duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical (or provide valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- Be 21 years or older and hold a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.

- Perform moderate heavy labor, lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods.
- Execute repetitive tasks without fatigue.

- Select appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Assess distances accurately between objects.
- Apply logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions and decisions.

Hourly pay range: $29.42 – $44.13 per hour. Pay may vary based on location, skills, and experience. Additional compensation may include commissions or incentive programs.
Benefits & Paid Time OffEligible for a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off each month and seven paid holidays. Additional PTO available for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer time, military leave, and parental leave.
