Screed Operator

general summary

operates screed machine to spread and smooth freshly poured concrete or asphalt surfaces.

this is a union-represented position.

• must be able to operate asphalt, screed, or concrete paver.
• ability to operate other paving related equipment as well such as rollers, screed, etc.
• must be able to safely perform a number of construction paving duties.
• performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor.
• moves levers, depresses pedals, turns hand wheels, and pushes throttle to control and guide machine.

• high school diploma, ged or equivalent years of experience

• proper certification required

• appropriate training and experience required

workers should be able to:

• read engineering drawing
• practice good safety habits
• work in dusty or dirty surroundings
• follow instructions and meet set standards
• judge distances and slopes accurately
• make decisions based on verifiable standards.

physically, workers must be able to:

• stoop, bend, and crouch
• use hands, arms, and legs fully
• see well (either naturally or with correction)
• lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
