Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary

Waste Connections is searching for our next all‑star Heavy Equipment Operator to join us at our West Van Materials Recovery Center (6601 NW Old Lower River Rd, Vancouver, WA 98660).

Starting rate of pay is $29.00/HR. Schedule is Monday‑Friday (with an occasional Saturday). Shift is 12:30 PM – 8:30 PM (or until close/last truck out). Overtime often.

Safety Sensitive: YES.

Qualified candidates must have Front End Loader, Excavator, Yard Truck and Trailer experience.

• Efficiently and safely operate Front End Loader, Excavator, Yard Truck and Trailer. Compactor experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report.
• Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.

• Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds.
• Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring basic safety precautions.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment is required.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, oil, and water levels.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 500 hours of Heavy Equipment Operating experience directly related to the duties specified.
• Heavy Equipment Operating certification from an accredited trade school (preferred).
• Basic knowledge of computer skills.
