Cool Sys is seeking a Refrigeration Start-Up Technician to commission, test, and optimize commercial refrigeration and HVAC-R systems for retail, industrial, and mission-critical customers. In this field-based role, you'll perform start-up, verification, and fine-tuning of new and retrofit systems, validate controls, troubleshoot performance issues, and document results to meet engineering and customer specifications. You'll collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and asset management teams, uphold safety and quality standards, and support energy-efficient, reliable system operation while representing Cool Sys' customer-focused culture on-site.
Responsibilities
- Perform start-up, commissioning, and verification of commercial refrigeration and HVAC-R systems.
- Test, balance, and optimize system performance to meet engineering and customer specifications.
- Configure and verify control setpoints, safeties, and alarms for new and retrofit projects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve start-up and performance issues in the field.
- Document test results, measurements, and commissioning reports accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and asset management teams on system issues and improvements.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and Cool
- Sys procedures on every job.
- Support customers on-site, clearly communicating findings and recommendations.
- Handle refrigerants according to EPA and company guidelines.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
Required Skills
- Commercial refrigeration systems
- HVAC-R start-up and commissioning
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Control systems and BAS familiarity
- Reading mechanical and electrical schematics
- Refrigerant handling and charging
- Use of gauges, meters, and diagnostic tools
- System performance testing and documentation
- Safety procedures and lockout/tagout
- Basic PLC or controller programming/adjustment
