Senior Android Engineer
TeamOur Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products. This Senior Android Engineer is part of the Air Shopping Experience team, which builds the end‑to‑end air shopping journey across native and web, powering flight search, discovery, and booking across Expedia Group brands. The role is based in Seattle, collaborating with distributed teams.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain advanced Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Lead end‑to‑end feature delivery, including low‑level design, API design, and data modeling for mobile features and services that integrate with backend systems and shared platforms.
- Collaborate with product, design, and cross‑functional engineering teams to define technical approaches, refine requirements, and deliver high‑quality customer experiences in a fast‑paced environment.
- Drive code quality through rigorous code reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, and adherence to engineering best practices for Android development.
- Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
- Enhance observability, performance monitoring, and incident resolution for Android applications, contributing to operational excellence and reusable patterns across multiple product areas.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional experience developing and shipping Android applications using Kotlin in a production environment, including ownership of features or services from design through deployment and support.
- Experience with Android application architecture, API integration, and data modeling, including working with RESTful services and offline data handling.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain testable, maintainable, and performant Android codebases using modern frameworks, tools, and libraries.
- Familiarity with AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real‑world products, with a focus on safely integrating these capabilities into mobile features.
- 5+ years of experience as an Android Engineer and advanced proficiency in Kotlin.
- Advanced proficiency with Jetpack components/Jetpack Compose, Android UI/UX best practices, and performance optimization.
- Deep understanding of Android app architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI, MVP).
- Experience leading technical design for complex Android features, including low‑level design, API contracts, and data models that integrate with multiple backend or shared services.
- Proven track record driving architectural improvements in Android apps and mentoring other engineers on best practices.
- Experience safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled or AI‑assisted features within mobile applications.
- Demonstrated ability to apply AI/ML‑adjacent techniques (e.g., on‑device ML frameworks or AI‑powered developer tools) to improve development productivity, quality, or customer outcomes.
Pay range in Seattle: $ to $, with potential to increase up to $ based on performance.
