R Distribution Manager w/o CDL (Open)

Responsibilities- Coordinate the daily delivery of product to customers at the lowest cost of distribution, complying with legal and operational constraints, and provide drivers with planned routes, loading & unloading points.
- Include export activities.
- Responsible for adherence to company policies, including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Create a safe work environment and continuously comply with company safety rules, standard operating procedures and government regulations.
- Investigate customer complaints, analyze & resolve work problems, and assist drivers in solving work problems.
- Perform monthly ride‑alongs with drivers, coaching on Smith Safe Driving principles, DOT paperwork compliance, pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, material handling, and customer service relations.
- Conduct monthly safety meetings with drivers; interpret company policies to drivers and enforce safety regulations.
- Interpret job orders, assign duties, and deliver assignments according to customer needs, current delivery schedule and availability of supplies.
- Ensure delivery schedules are efficient and meet the needs of the customer; coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless customer service.
- Manage work hours, approve entries in the time‑keeping system, maintain hours within the established budget, review attendance for policy adherence, and apply progressive discipline.
- Maintain all required DOT inspection reports and manifests, verify and release tickets, and handle additional documentation needed in driver supervision.
- Maintain and balance shipping papers/manifests; verify or prepare records such as routing slips, material requisitions, and job orders.
- Process cylinder orders from branch stores for STO routes and for local routes.
- Communicate with the Plant Manager to maintain appropriate on‑hand stock of required gas cylinders.
- Confere with supervisors of other departments to coordinate flow of materials or products.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of truck capacities.
- Analyze and resolve work problems or assist drivers in deliveries and product shortages.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and equipment to increase driver efficiency.
- Provide leadership direction to all levels of associates: positive motivation, performance evaluations, coaching, regular feedback, and leading team meetings.
- Provide coaching and corrective action promptly to improve performance.
- Train new employees and cross‑train associates to ensure delivery continuity during shortages.
- Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate driver’s license classification while operating company vehicles.
- Work safely and meet all safety procedures and rules as prescribed by State, Federal, and the Company.
- All employees are expected to perform any reasonable work request within the framework of company policies.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred; alternatively High School diploma with five years related experience or a combination of education and experience. - Experience:
Prefer five years’ experience distributing industrial gas/packaged gases or related industries; recommend a minimum of two years supervisory experience. - Knowledge of DOT regulations regarding hours of service and handling of hazardous materials.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) is preferred.
- Ability to operate forklift and maintain appropriate certification.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people, different personalities and backgrounds.
- Must be able to operate in a drug‑free workplace.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
