General Responsibilities

Reporting to the Specialized Transportation Director, the Driver Trainer position is on an "as needed basis".

Salary:
This position pays $27.94 - $33.99 per hour. Offers are made at the entry level of the range.

Assignment:
This position will work on call, as needed. The person in this position will need to be available to travel throughout the ESD 112 service region to provide training to new School Bus Drivers. This will include travel throughout Clark, Cowlitz, and Klickitat counties. Work related travel will be reimbursed in accordance with ESD 112 travel policies and procedures.

  • Essential Functions/Other Functions

    Essential Function:
  • Conducts bus driver training for ESD 112 bus drivers, assuring compliance with state laws and regulations and district policies.
  • Maintain training, safety and other transportation records consistent with all federal and state laws, and ESD 112 policies.
  • Conducts driving evaluations and retraining programs on an individual basis when necessary.
  • Conducts special training programs, i.e. driver responsibilities and techniques, working with special needs students, as well as special tools and equipment.
  • Attends the state required Driver Trainer In-Service and presents the mandatory annual Washington State In-Service curriculum for the district's drivers as required by OSPI.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work well with others, including listening empathetically, developing new employees and motivating staff to do their best.
  • Drive school bus as needed.

  • Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Hold a valid state class A or B commercial driver's license with "S" and "P1" endorsements and a valid Washington State School bus driver authorization.
  • Certificate of Completion of OSPI's School Bus Driver Trainer course and Certificate of Completion of the mandated OSPI annual Driver Trainers In-Service that is put on by OSPI.
  • Two years of experience as a school bus driver.
  • Hold or be able to obtain within 60 days a valid First Aid card.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a bus driver working with special needs students.
  • Two years of experience as a school bus driver trainer.
  • Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

    Working Conditions:
  • Required to operate and ride school buses under various road conditions.
  • Required to set up driving maneuvers using traffic cones and other devices, with frequent lifting, kneeling and bending.
  • Required to remain on-call and work flexible hours as necessary.
  • Travel throughout the ESD 112 service region as needed.
  • Employment Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
